The new iPad Camera

New iPad 3 cameraThe new iPad 3 brings many of the camera enhancements that have already appeared on the iPhone 4S. Of course the iPhone 4S has already proved to be the fastest selling smartphone ever, and has quickly risen to be the most common camera phone for uploading directly to Flickr.

The new hardware developments together with the enhancements in the new iOS 5.1 system truly bring the new iPad’s rear camera into a new era of tablet cameras. Previous tablet cameras have been perfectly capable of snapshots, but by no means a replacement for a digital camera. The new iPad’s camera packs a whopping 5MP and is capable of recording video in HD at 1080P. Whereas users had previously pulled out their digital cameras or phones to capture the moment, for new iPad 3 users it will be second nature to reach for the tablet.

Apple have also elected to replace the previous lower-res front-facing camera with the new iSight camera that is already used in iMacs and Macbook Pros. This will make use of video calling apps such as FaceTime and Skype a very much more high-def experience.

So with the back camera packing in 5 megapixels, it needs to be said that it’s not just about the number of pixels. When taking photos in poorly-lit conditions, more megapixels can actually make an image look worse. The iSight camera incorporates a much better illumination technology in the form of a larger sensor with allows much more light information to pass into the lens and be calculated for optimum photo resolution. The technology of the illumination is able to keep wires and so on out of the path of the light using brand new technology.

New iPad 3 camera

The lens on the new iPad 3 camera Apple is a swift f/2.4 aperture and they’ve added a fifth lens for extra clarity and sharpness of image quality. It’s also helpful in low light conditions as it helps the camera filter in a wider light range and apply smoothing to light points.

In order to utilise all this revolutionary new camera hardware, the in-house Apple processor has been developed and upgraded. The new A5X CPA contains an onboard image signal processor in addition to extra memory.

Having that boost in processing power, users are now able to record video in 1080P HD resolution. They can also edit videos in real time on the device. With the onboard image processing, the new iPad 3 can now handle image stabilization, face detection and IR filtration.

The image stabilization feature helps reduce camera shake while you’re recording video footage and it’s particularly useful when making pan shots. CMOS sensors can have a tendency to incorrectly interpret infrared information and cause problems with color in images – the IR filtration will take care of that problem.

Face detection is a familiar feature on camera phones, and now it comes to the new iPad 3 with several extra options. It can detect whether you’re taking a single portrait or a group picture, and adjust for white balance accordingly. This means the photographer can concentrate on the composition of the photo rather than messing about with the settings to try to find the optimum balance.

The new iPad 3 camera is definitely a huge step forward for tablet cameras and seems sure to prove a big hit with many users.

New iPad – 4G and WiFi versions

New iPad WiFi or 4GThe new iPad 3 comes in two versions: one which connects only via WiFi and one which can also use the 4G network. Choosing one of these options can be a puzzler. Before choosing one you should consider the difference carefully and understand how it will impact your intended use of the iPad. You will need to think about where you are likely to want to use the device, for what purpose, and you will also need to take your budget into account.

Basic cost and Data plan

The Wifi version of the new iPad 3 is the base pricing model, therefore the cheapest. Selecting the iPad 4G model you will have to spend extra money – how much depends on which model you’re looking for, the 16gb, 32gb or 64gb.

But not only do you have to think about the uplift in initial cost – if you’re going to be connecting on 4G, you’ll also need a data plan and sim card. If you plan to use your iPad on the move a great deal, you’ll probably be best opting for an unlimited usage plan, which could cost up to $30 a month.

So the WiFi model will be the cheapest version, but if you want to be connected no matter where you are, you’ll have to shell out extra for the 4G version.

Connectivity

Although the WiFi version will happily keep you connected when you’re at home or a WiFi hotspots, there’s really no competition with 4G. 4G mobile internet is much faster than the previous 3G and 4G signal is now available in about a third of the US. If you’re happy waiting for a WiFi hotspot to connect, or just intend to use your iPad at home, then stick with the WiFi version.

Battery

Both the 4G and WiFi versions of the new iPad 3 have about the same battery life on standby or when using non-connected apps. However, once you start using the device while connected you will notice a difference. The WiFi model uses quite a bit of juice and will deplete the battery at a moderate rate. The 4G model, on the other hand, drains the battery like a vampire.

When comparing the two and running side by side benchmark tests, the 4G model drains from full battery to dead around 2 hours quicker than the WiFi version, a considerable difference. If you’re only using the 4G connection from time to time, for example to sync emails, then you won’t really notice this problem. However, if you’re using always-connected apps such as LogMeIn or Splashtop, or syncing your Dropbox account, you’re going to definitely notice this issue.

One thing you can do to improve this is to make sure you switch off the 4G in the Settings panel when you’re using the device somewhere with accessible WiFi, to avoid draining as much as possible.

Conclusion

It’s a difficult choice between the new iPad 3 WiFi or 4G because both options have their pros and cons. The 4G model definitely has more convenience in terms of being able to connect to the internet anywhere, but is significantly more expensive both with the initial cost of the unit and the ongoing cost of the data plan. However, if you need to be constantly connected then the 4G model is the only way to go – just don’t forget your charger.

New iPad 3 Cost

New iPad 3 CostNow that the new iPad (aka iPad 3) is on the market for sale, there’s a big question in most people’s minds: is it worth the cost? After all there’s now a much bigger choice of tablet PCs than when the first generation iPad first appeared. Cost can be a big issue when choosing a tablet, but it’s also important to consider the features that are supplied by different tablet PCs.

Apple have really stuck with one pricing model over the last couple of years. Every time there is a new release of the iPad, the latest model is priced at the same point as the previous one. So the new iPad 16gb WiFi only model is priced at $555, whereas the RRP for the 64gb device with 4G connectivity is $919. Occasionally you’ll find some discounts and special pricing events but these are few and far between.

On the other hand, Android tablets come at a much more competitive price, with several available for under $200. That said, obviously the lower priced models have much less memory than an iPad – for example the Coby Kyros runs at $100-$130 and carries 4gb of RAM. You can surf the internet, play videos from YouTube, read and send email, and run a select number of apps from the Google Play store. If you’re looking for a basic device that will allow you to stay in touch via WiFi hotspots, this would be an excellent budget option.

If your budget is a little higher, the Nook and Kindle Fire are both available for around $200 and have 8gb memory each. Both of these tablets are really more e-readers than traditional tablet PCs and have been designed to integrate particularly with the manufacturer’s store (Barnes & noble for the Nook, Amazon for the Kindle.) The tablets can surf the internet and stream media as well as, of course, reading ebooks. Neither has a camera so video calling is not an option, and the storage capacity isn’t brilliant. Although the pricing is attractive, the lack of functionality makes these two impractical for some users.

New iPad 3 Cost Cannot Compete with Android Tablets

If you have a bigger budget to play with, there are a number of tablets which offer similar specs but undercut the new iPad 3 cost. The 7-inch version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab is available for around $350 and has excellent reviews. The Motorola Xoom likewise has had a very favourable reception and the 32gb version costs just $425.

The biggest factor when choosing your device will be the use to which you expect to put it. If you need constant connectivity then you’ll be wanting a tablet which can connect with 3G or 4G rather than just via WiFi. In this case you’ll have to accept a higher price tag to get this convenience. If you already are an Apple fan and own an iPhone, iPod or Mac, you will find the iCloud storage offered on the iPad of great use, and of course the controls and user interface will already be very familiar to you and not present such a learning curve as moving on to an Android tablet. Plus there is a far greater range of applications available for the iPad than for other tablets. These advantages may well tip the balance in its favour despite the new iPad 3 cost.

iPad 3: All the latest rumors in one place

ipad 3The long-awaited iPad 3 is set to be unveiled this Wednesday, March 7th. Here is TabletBuzzBlog’s round-up of all the current rumors about this hotly-anticipated tablet.

Rumor: MacRumors claims that they’ve got hold of the iPad 3 screen spec, and that the new display, although the same physical size as the iPad 1 and 2, will be able to handle DOUBLE the resolution – that’s a whopping 2048×1536 pixels! This would make playing of HD videos and games even more enjoyable and would put the iPad back at the front of the tablet pack – having been overtaken last summer by several Android tablets which achieved 1280×1080 display.

Our verdict: We would certainly expect to see an increased resolution to put Apple at least level with its competitors. Whether 2048×1536 is truly achievable is another question. If it is true, it will have other tablet makers scrambling to keep up.

Rumor: iPad 3 pricing points are believed to be coming in as the same as the iPad 2 pricing on release – so you’ll be looking at $499 for the basic 16gb WiFi version, and probably around $1200 if we do get a 128gb option.

Our verdict: This pricing model seems a smart way for Apple to draw in as many new customers as possible given the current world economy. Increasing their pricing would put the device well out of reach for many households. We think this rumor is correct.

Rumor: Processing and RAM seem sure to see an upgrade. Bloomberg have announced that the iPad 3 will be using an A6 processor, which seems plausible. Apple left the iPad 2 to use the same processor as the iPad 1, so this is by no means a guaranteed upgrade. However, since many iPad 1 and 2 owners have reported slow response since upgrading their devices to iOS5, a processor upgrade seems called for in order to give the best user experience. Hand in hand with a better processor should be a better amount of RAM. The 512mb on board the iPad 2 will probably not be enough for iOS5.1.

Our verdict: We would put our money on both processor and RAM being upgraded in order to cope with the new operating system, iOS5.

Rumor: The iPad 3 will have a HD forward-facing camera, according to iLounge (quoting several sources.)

Our verdict: Although many people use their tablets for video chats, adding TWO HD cameras to the device would probably raise the price above what Apple want to charge. We think this rumor is a red herring.

Rumor: The iPad 3 will support Siri, the voice “assistant” which has been embedded in the iPhone 4S.

Our verdict: If the iPhone 4S can handle Siri, then we think including it on the iPad 3 is a no-brainer. Prepare for the sight of people talking into their iPads during your commute!

Rumor: The new iPad 3 will come in a 128gb storage option and will have extra slots for expanded storage.

Our verdict: We reckon the 128gb is a definite possibility, but doubt Apple will break their tradition of not including alternate storage. Apple love the thinness of their sleek flagship product, and adding storage options would necessarily give it a much thicker profile.

Rumor: The iPad 3 will be almost indistinguishable on the surface from the iPad 2.

Our verdict: Although the overall look and feel of the tablet is unlikely to change, we are expecting to see a slightly thicker model to accommodate the extra storage and upgraded processor.

What do you think? Have you heard other rumors about the iPad 3, or do you have your own theories? Let us know in the comments!

Alternative PC Tablets Like the iPad

tablets like ipadOver the past two decades, alternative PC tablets like the iPad have been developed by computer entrepreneurs like the late Steve Jobs to make people’s lives easier in many ways, as well as more entertaining. The iPad was first released in 2010 and within a year, it had sold more units than all other tablets put together. Already it has been updated once, and the iPad 3 may be released within the next month or so – although even now all that is available online regarding that version are rumors.

Tablets like iPad have a liquid crystal display touch screen that can be operated either through the fingers or by means of a stylus that comes with the machine (this can be stored in the back of the tablet when not in use). Various apps can be downloaded for all sorts of purposes, both business and pleasure; already, the numbers of these apps run up into the thousands. An iPad can also serve as a “second screen,” enabling users who are watching TV to interact with what is being broadcast and view things that are available exclusively online. And parents are now discovering its value as a homeschooling device!

Tablets Like iPad – What’s Available?

Other tablets like the iPad include the Kindle Fire, the Samsung Galaxy, the G-Slate 4G Android Tablet, and the Acer Iconia A200. Determining which is the right one for you depends on many personal and non- personal factors. If you want to have an additional device in your household, then the iPad is definitely the best; its selection of apps is the best, and it has the longest battery life. Kindle Fire is, however, cheaper and faster, so it is the better choice if you are on a tight budget. iPad is also a great choice if you want a tool for business travel, again because of its wide app selcection; and also as a portable entertainment center— in fact, the iPad is really the only tablet that allows you to watch movies you have purchased or rented from the iTunes store. An Android tablet is much better, however, if you wish to use the tablet as your only computer; for the iPad needs a PC or a Mac for its setup and backups, as well as for updates to its operating system. Likewise, the Kindle is the cheapest way to get something with which to read books; it is connected with Amazon’s online bookstore. The home screen is another thing to consider.

You should realize that some of these devices are not really computers; they are simply wireless mobile Internet devices— you cannot create or store documents on them, although they may be useful for some other purposes. For instance, such a tablet may give the local weather on its desktop, and have a calculator and various apps for listening to music and watching and sharing videos online. The Sylvania 7-Inch Tablet is an example of such a product.

Tablets like the iPad can be both rewarding and a productive business purchase – which one you choose will be down to your needs and personal preference, and your budget.

personalized ipad caseIt’s hard for consumers to find the right gift. Sometimes it’s takes a lot to really find something that will fit a person and their needs. A personalized iPad case may be exactly what is needed to provide the perfect gift solution.

It’s much more common to see people with a mundane iPad case with no style at all. It’s rare, however, to see people that have protection from a case with a personal touch added to it. These cases are separated from the masses.

This can be a wonderful gift for couples or groups. People that are part of a specific group or organization may obtain these types of cases to show unity. A small business owner, for example, may give a personalized iPad case to multiple employees to promote the company. Every time that the employee goes out with their work-issued iPad they can promote the company. This is something that becomes beneficial to both the employee and the business.

This is a very valuable resource because it adds an extra layer of protection for tablet users. It certainly makes this device easier to find when it is replaced. It also makes the iPad stand out among other tablet PCs. It can be used for advertising and it’s also important for protecting this tablet. The combination of all these things makes it a perfect gift solution. Anyone that is desperately trying to find a great gift should consider a personalized iPad case.

Welcome to the Future: iPad Home Automation

ipad home automation
Technology has greatly improved over the years and the iPad Home Automation system is now with us. Years ago no one would have ever thought that you would be able to control lighting or anything else in your home with an electronic device such as this.

Everything has changed rather drastically since the first computer was developed years ago. Laptop computers, mobile phones and iPads and other tablet devices are definitely the norm now. Every household in America has at least one of these items, if not more. People love to be connected to the internet at all times and with this device it has only become easier.

Seeing as the iPad has become one of the most sought after device in years, its popularity will only increase if you are able to control your home with it. Then there would be no reason to move while engrossed in that great movie, just have the device simply turn the lights off for you, or change the temperature in the house.

Some people simply mount their iPad device to a free wall in their house and set up a little control station. Televisions, radios, coffee makers, lights, and even curtains can all be controlled. It all depends upon if you want everything in your house to be controlled this way or just a certain few things.

iPad Home Automation Demo

With iPad Home Automation, you will be able to control your lighting and remotes, curtains or blinds, and electronic entertainment systems all with one little device – there’s an app for that! Seeing as these applications will control so many things, the price is understandably not cheap. These applications will start at $49.99 and increase, but that is just for one time only purchase. However, you must remember that you also need a control system physically installed in your home to use these apps. Some home automation systems include: Control4, Savant, RadioRA 2, Homeworks, etc.

This advancing technology is great; you will be able to control things in your house when you are not there. You can make coffee while you’re not even in the kitchen, turn the thermostat up or down while you are working in the garage. You will also be able to turn on lights in rooms before you even step foot in there. These are all good applications for tech junkies and of course they are great to show off to visitors!

If you enjoy things getting done automatically without ever having to leave a particular room, then you will definitely love the great technology of the iPad Home Automation systems. Your coffee could be made when you wake up to start your morning, the thermostat will always be the perfect temperature after you’ve taken a shower. The lights could even be on a timer, to come on every hour. If you will be away from home for a while, all these functions can be turned off. While on vacation you wouldn’t want your coffee maker to still fix coffee on a daily basis! That’s the beauty of all these advancing technologies; just like they can be turned on and activated they can also be deactivated just as easily.

While some people may feel as if that type of technology will only make people lazy, others feel it’s a great thing to have standard in your home. The iPad Home Automation device all depends upon your needs and your likes as well.

Which Suits Your Needs Better? Netbook vs iPad

netbook vs iPadPeople nowadays want portability in accessing their Facebook accounts, Youtube and other social networking sites with the use of Wi-Fi. Netbook vs iPad - each has its advantages and disadvantages and it depends on the users’s preference.

Netbook is a mini-laptop with a smaller screen compared to a standard desktop PC or laptop and of course, it is lighter. You can also access the browser of your choice with full support of Flash, Silverlight, HTML5 and among others. The screens are smaller and you cannot easily rotate or zoom the display. Also there is a keyboard for easy data entry. Some users may experience degradation of performance when using “heavy” applications, for example watching HD video.

Working on a netbook vs iPad

The iPad is a tablet and is certainly very handy. It is lighter than a netbook. You can browse with it just using your hand and easily rotate and zoom the display using your fingers. It has an on-screen keyboard for data entry, but you will find it easier with a physical keyboard, which must be bought as an additional accessory. The iPad does not support Adobe Flash so you cannot enjoy some of the websites that are Adobe Flash enabled. The iPad comes pre-installed with the Safari browser. There are a number of other browsers available, notably Mercury and Atomic, but Firefox is not yet available.

For surfing the web, a lot of people prefer a netbook vs iPad because of Adobe Flash support and HTML 5. A netbook gives you the freedom of choosing your own browser, although the iPad has the advantage of pinch-zooming.

For portability, an iPad is a great companion wherever you go since it is lighter than a netbook. It is easier to carry even on a single hand while sharing it to someone next to you. Because of its pinch-zooming it is also easier to read e-books. The iPad has also a slimmer design and it has also clear view even you put it on your lap.

For entertainment, the iPad is a sure winner because of its easy access to music, videos, books and games through the app store. You can also enjoy many games.

For productivity, productivity suites that are compatible with Windows like Microsoft Office, OpenOffice and Works can run in both netbook and iPad. The netbook has a physical keyboard which is comfortable to type on, and has the ability for multi-tasking. The iPad has no ability for multi-tasking, which can really slow you down if you’re using it for business.

For value, a netbook is cheaper than an iPad. The netbook starts for as low as $299. The obvious difference they have with the iPad is that netbook has ports and features, VGA port, built in webcam and integrated memory card reader. You cannot find this in an iPad and additionally you will have to spend money on accessories such as a keyboard, a protective case, etc. The cheapest iPad 2 model is around $499, which is for the 16gb with WiFi support.

All in all, it depends on the person and which addons are preferred, and to what use you intend to put the device. What matters the most is your wallet and if you can afford it or not! Netbook vs iPad, which do you prefer?

Conserve Your Budget with iPad Rental

ipad rentalTechnology does not have to break your budget if you consider an iPad rental rather than a purchase. The cost to purchase an iPad outright can be extremely high. Many people may not have that kind of cash handy. Additionally, Most wireless/3G companies lock the customer into lengthy agreements that may end up being far from perfect. iPad rentals also give the customer the freedom to move on, or stay put if desired. Many online stores offer renting options. Renting gives the user the ability to have access to the entire internet, a vast array of applications and many options without having to worry about breaking the budget. You know how much you need to save and how much you can afford to spend each month – renting allows you to keep on budget while meeting your personal or business needs.

iPad Rental Services

Most Rental companies offer many services such as:

  • Configuring your iPad with custom branding, thus ensuring that your company logo is consistently there as a background for as long as you decide to keep your iPad rental
  • Offering WiFi with the choice of 3G as a preconfigured option
  • Choice of black or white colors; comes equipped with a carry case that also serves as a stand
  • Storage options
  • Full service support
  • Technical support and help
  • Security services
  • Vast choice of enhancements to suit your business needs

Services that are included at no extra fee may may vary depending on the iPad rental company that you choose. Additional choices, services and costs to rent options are totally up to you.

Costs

Naturally the more applications, storage and enhancements someone loads on their iPad, the higher the cost will be. However, it is generally cheaper to rent a unit than signing a standard contract. Upfront money to purchase can be daunting. Consider that it can cost upwards of $500 just to get up and running on an iPad, renting is not a bad option. Not everyone has the desire or ability to lay out such a large sum of money, especially if they are just learning about the product. Purchasing extra applications that may never be used is one way to kill your budget!

Many offers to buy iPads may include options that do not appeal to you or that you simply do not need. Renting puts you in charge, allowing you to decide what applications, enhancements and services you want without wasting money.

An affordable monthly rental cost, no huge payout to get you started and the choice of what you want your iPad rental to have, makes renting the smart choice to conserve your budget.

How Apple Is Bringing Textbooks on iPad

textbooks on ipadApple has been reinventing the way people use technology to their advantage. They have drastically changed the way people play, interact with each other and entertain themselves. Now, they are focusing on education. Recently, Apple released its newest application called iBooks 2. This application allows the user to read textbooks on iPad. They claim that it will revolutionize learning in a fun and interactive kind of way.

iBooks 2 seeks to solve one of the most common problem of students: an alternative to heavy and expensive traditional textbooks. Paper textbooks are priced quite expensively mainly due to the difficulty and cost of their production. Moreover, most books are being practically outdated in a relatively short period of time because of how information changes so rapidly. The new iBooks 2 solves this problem because its books are electronically transferred to your iPad. It allows a student to purchase and read textbooks on iPad for a relatively lower price compared to its paper counterpart. Furthermore, iBooks also answers to the problem of heavy backpacks and school bags that is proven to be cumbersome to students and can cause back problems and bad posture.

Textbooks on iPad with new iBooks 2

The new iBooks 2 promotes interactive learning. The new textbooks are equipped with interactive photos, videos and diagrams that will fully facilitate and enhance a student’s learning experience. It also gives students easy access to the book’s glossary of terms and links to relevant information regarding the topic being discussed. Additionally, users are able to take notes and access them later for self quizzing as a chapter review. Highlighting important texts can also be done with just a slide of the finger.

There are already a lot of textbooks available on the iBookstore. In fact, the top 3 textbook publishers, namely Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Mc Graw Hill, and Pearson have been in full support of the iBooks campaign to revolutionize textbooks. The new iBooks 2 app can be downloaded free while electronic textbooks can be downloaded at very reasonable prices for just a small fraction of a regular textbook’s cost.

The new iBooks 2 is certainly a glimpse of the future. The technological change in how classrooms may look and function in the near future may be happening sooner than we think! The idea of reading textbooks on iPad could work perfectly with students – provided it is used correctly. Changing the way students learn from the traditional way to the high tech way may not be easy; but it is certainly inevitable considering how fast-paced technology is transforming the world.
